Our History

The National Transport Corporation (NTC) was set up as a body corporate to operate public transport services by an Act of Parliament on 24 April 1979, and it started its operations on 12 March 1980. The share capital of the Corporation is fully owned by Government.  From a modest beginning, after taking over the assets of the ex-Vacoas Transport Co. Ltd, NTC has grown into the largest bus transport service provider in Mauritius.

On the 24th April 1979, the National Transport Corporation was created by an Act of Parliament (Act No. 5 of 1979) with the following objectives:-

  • To establish and operate public services and other ancillary service in any part of Mauritius.
  • In carrying out its objects under the Act, the Corporation must, have due regard to the interest of the travelling public and of the employees of the existing companies.
  • Operate on commercial principles and ensure a reasonable return on its capital

The National Transport Corporation has grown into the single largest Bus Fleet Operator of the island during these past 37 years.
