The National Transport Corporation (NTC) was set up as a body corporate to operate public transport services by an Act of Parliament on 24 April 1979, and it started its operations on 12 March 1980.
The share capital of the Corporation is fully owned by Government. From a modest beginning, after taking over the assets of the ex-Vacoas Transport Co. Ltd, NTC has grown into the largest bus transport service provider in Mauritius.
Today NTC has the largest fleet of buses (556) operating from 6 depots.
Its network covers the whole island with 92 bus routes, besides being the largest school bus service provider.
It has the largest bus crew with more than 1,500 bus drivers and conductors out of a total workforce of around 2,260.
The NTC operates on a commercial basis and competes with private bus operators but at the same time as a public service organisation, it has the responsibility of providing bus services on non-economic ‘social’ routes.
Our vision is to become number one bus service provider with our comfortable seats
